ABOUT MY PAST
My new mommy and daddy found some photos of me from last year which I will share in a few shakes of a poodle's tail, but first let me tell you what they have told me of my younger years. Daddy says he first met me in the spring of 2010, I don't know what that is in dog years. That's a dog joke, if you don't have fur you probably won't get it. It was during a heavy rain storm with lots of loud noises and flashes in the sky. Mommy and Daddy say it's called thunder and lightning, but I only remember it was scary and wet. My fur was a mess because I had gotten into a mud poodle. That's another dog joke, ha ha!
Behind my new parents' home was an old mobile home that no one lived in, but there were cats and other furry kids living under it to stay dry. I was the only dog there. I didn't live there, I had ran away from home I guess, I don't remember. I was looking for a place to stay dry and safe too. At one point, I sneaked out into the storm and that's when my new daddy saw me for the first time. He tried to catch me but I was too fast for him. I ran back under that home because I'm not suppose to talk to strangers. I didn't know at the time he wanted to take me into their home so I could be fed and taken care of for the night.
The next day it stopped raining and he saw me out snooping around by his fence. I saw him with his little doggies outside and I crept up to the fence to take a peek. He had two schnauzers, a boy and a girl. The girl, Apple, was so pretty, but the boy..... Well we know what boys are like. He was bigger than Apple and a lot louder. His name is Max. Max sure had a lot to say, he barked at everyone going by, and he even barked at Apple, but I know they were just playing. I still wasn't sure about Max at first, but I crept closer still.
Let me tell you the problem with schnauzers. They have excellent noses. Apple must have smelled my fur that was still wet and muddy from the night before, because she told her daddy I was there. Her daddy put her on her leash and came around the fence. I wasn't falling for that trick, I ran, but I didn't run far, just back under the empty mobile home. I guess that wasn't a smart move because Apple's daddy called animal control and they came and got me and took me back to my home at the time. The man from animal control knew me because I had ran away from home before. I don't know why I ran away, no one does, maybe I was lonely there. All that would change as you'll see, but it was a long journey.
As the saying goes, you just can't keep a good mini poodle down. Well that's what poodles say, but schnauzers may have a different version of that. Oh, don't think I don't love schnauzers, because as you'll see, I really do. About a week went by, or 49 days in doggy time, and I was back. I was sneaking around trying to get a glimpse of Apple and Max out playing in their fenced in yard. They were having such fun, and I probably wanted to play with them too, but I knew what would happen if their daddy saw me. Well, my secret friend Apple did see me again, and told her brother. Max barked at me and I barked back but I couldn't do that scary bark like Max can. For a little boy he sure has a big mouth, but really, between you, I, and the fire hydrant, he's really a nice boy. He's also goofy!
As my new parents tell me, it was at that time some neighbors from the apt complex saw me and tried to catch me but I outran them. I was hiding under that empty old trailer again when I saw the animal control man pull up and stop. I wasn't going to come out for him this time, so I hid. Let me tell you, those people will play tricks on you. He set up a wire cage and put food inside. Not just any food, hot dogs! I don't know why they call them hot dogs, it wasn't hot and it didn't have fur, but it sure smelled yummy. I waited for him to leave and then I ran in to get the food but the door on the cage slammed shut. I was trapped! Again I was returned to my home, but I would escape again.
Late one night after another terrible rain, about a week since my last adventure, I escaped again but this time I played it smart. I went another way down the street and found a place where human kids play with a ball and stick and they run around in circles and .... well... that's not how we poodles play ball, but they enjoy it. There was no one there that night except for some bunnies, I think I scared them away. I'm not a very big girl, but I'm bigger than a bunny that's for sure. I was hiding in some wet grass on a little hill, when who should walk by but Apple and her daddy. I was probably thinking how nice it would be to walk in Apple's paws, but I stayed hidden in the grass. Then as fate would have it, Apple's nose kicked into high gear again.
Apple pulled her daddy to a stop and insisted they come back my way. I didn't want to run into the woods, and I sure didn't want to give away my hiding spot, so I lay very still. The next thing I know Apple is sniffing me and nudging me with her little black nose. I kept watching her father, he's a lot bigger than me. Finally he came closer and got down low and talked to Apple and I. I was too scared at first to know what he was saying, but he didn't seem mad so I let him stroke my fur. It felt so good when they paid attention to me, it was like I just made some new friends. Then he picked me up and carried me away. Here we go again I thought.
WOW! As in BOW WOW! They took me to their house and even let me go inside where they dried me off and cleaned me up, and even shared their food. Let me tell you, those schnauzers sure are a curious lot. They sniffed me all over and walked around me like they had never seen an extremely gorgeous apricot mini poodle before. And then ..... Apple got down in the front with her butt up in the air and the games were on. We had a wonderful time ... while it lasted. Oh, and I remember the toys! Up until that time, I had never seen so many toys all in one place before. It was like Santa Paws lived there.
But alas, I couldn't stay. I was someone else's "pet" and they had to do what they thought was best, and they took me over to another house and that family promised Apple & Max's daddy they would give me a good home, and I'd be safe. But it wasn't long before I was back to my old tricks, and sneaking off to see Apple, Max and their parents. They always returned me well fed though. then somehow, we lost touch.
Don't be too sad for me, things worked out great in the end. After being picked up numerous times, I was taken in by PC Pound Puppies and they found me a foster home. I loved it there. they were really nice to me while I stayed there. Then they found me a new home, with a new mommy and a new furry sibling. I think I was there for about 14 months. That's a pretty long time in doggy years. They were really good to me. One might say they spoiled me, but you can't spoil a poodle, we're special.
Sometimes humans have to make some pretty hard decisions, and as luck would have it, my family had to do the same. I know it was a hard decision because they told me how much they loved me, and they showed me too. My furry sibling was getting very sick and not as playful as he used to be. He was starting to be mean to me. I still love him, and it's not his fault he is not feeling good. Because they loved me they made a decision that was very hard to make. They asked PC Pound Puppies to take me back and find me a new home. Not just any home, that would be like just a house, but a home with a family. People who would care for me and love me and make sure I have proper medical care (you know, the "v" word). She wanted me to be loved the way she loved me. Why me? Simple! I'm adorable, it would be much easier for the rescue people to find me a home than my ailing sibling. Sure I'll miss them, I always will, and I hope they will come visit me sometimes. I know this was the only logical solution, because my furry little sibling needs all the attention right now that he can get and my mommy knew someone would want to take me in.
What happened next you are not going to believe. Apple's mommy and daddy saw my picture on something called face book, I guess it's a book of pretty faces because I was on it. They didn't recognize me at first, but they shared my picture hoping I would find another loving home. Later that night, they had a talk, and they thought, "if this pretty little girl needs a home, and we have room in our home and our hearts, why don't we adopt her?" And so they answered the call and went to see my friends at PCPP and applied to adopt me.
It wasn't until the next day that Apple & Max's daddy realized I was that same mini poodle he had saved from the storms and the streets so many times 3 years ago. How cool is that? Sadly, Apple went on to Rainbow Bridge earlier this year, but I know she is looking down on us and saying, "What took you so long?". So, tomorrow morning, they are picking me up, and bringing me home with them. They are going to let me use Apple's bowl and sleep with her sleepy baby if I want to, because, Apple would like that. Max is still a loud goofball, and I can't wait to play with him again. I bet he'll remember me in no time because I'm too darn cute to forget. I also hear they have a boy cat that thinks it's a schnauzer. Poor boy, he could have been a poodle wannabe if he only knew. His name is Mr. Peaches, and I can't wait to play with him. I remember Pum-kin too, she is a pretty white cat but she doesn't like to play as much as the rest do. She just likes to sit in the window and soak up the sun.
Now that you know about my past, please come back and visit often. My new parents will be taking lots of pictures of me and my new family (who were once old friends) and maybe even a video or two. Oh, remember at the beginning of my story I promised you some pictures of me from Oct, 2012? They will be posted soon. Please come back and play, and pray for all those who have touched my life in such a positive way, and especially for my family that had to give me up so my furry little sibling could get the care needed. I'll be just fine here, you'll see. Apple didn't come into my life for no reason at all, and I will make her proud. Now go explore my awesome blog, and rock it like a mini poodle.

ReplyDeleteHamsterdance, thank you for visiting my blog. I asked my daddy "what's a hamsterdance?" and he laughed. I hope you will come back soon. Mommy & Daddy say I need fans to be famous, I thought I needed them to keep cool. You people are funny, but I love you all. Keep rocking it like a mini poodle, or hamster, as long as we have fun playing together. Oh, Daddy said to watch out for boops! What's a boop?
DeleteHa ha, Hamster, you called me apricot, but I like it. That could be our BFF name for me maybe?
DeleteLOL sorry about the repost "Apricot" :) I was so taken by your beautiful apricot fur that I forgot your name was Jewel. Silly me, I accidentally deleted my original post when I tried to correct my mistake. Sorry! BTW, let me just say that I would like to be the first to cyber-boop your cute little nose!! Your daddy was wise to warn you, but that's ok. Boops don't hurt at all. :)
DeleteJewel, l just want you to know that even though we met so many doggie years ago, you left an indelible impression on my heart. You had run away from your home several times to see what else was out in the world. You are a free spirit! I couldn't help but wonder at that time, if you were happy in your home or not. Why would you run away so much? Even though l would have loved to take care of you back then, l could not take you away from someone else that loved you, especially if all your running away is because you are that free spirit. I'd like to think your home at that time was a happy home. Somewhere along the line, that home was not for you, for whatever reason, and although you've had some ups and downs in you little adventurous life, we meet again. I can't help but to think it was meant to be! You canfinally come home to us, you forever home with mommy, daddy, Max, Mr. Peaches, and Pumkin! You have always held a special place in our hearts. And although Apple is looking down at us from Rainbow Bridge, l can assure you she is happy, and that her angelic spirit had something to do with our paths meeting again. I can't wait to pick you up tomorrow! Your daddy and I are extatic about your homecoming. BTW, we've been keeping Max, Pumkin, and Mr. Peaches in the dark, yeah, they are pretty smart, and know something is up. Imagine the big SURPRISE! Watch your tail end, because Max will sure be sniffin around. I know he is going to remember your sweet smell, at least it will smell sweet to him, not so much for mommy and daddy! Look out to have fun! To be bombarded with love and affection, and to know this ids your finql move. Feel free to make yourself at home. Me casa su casa! See you later on in the day! Love, mommy
